Have you ever wished you could swing by a drive-thru on your way home to pick up a little more bud? With the expansion of recreational marijuana across 4 states now, this is surely a thought many have had.
For medicinal users in some areas of Michigan and Washington have already seen this convenience – but for recreational users, this convenience will soon be available in Oregon. A dispensary called Green Life Oregon opened up in January and they will be opening the first recreational cannabis drive-thru April 20th of this year (be prepared for a long line in that drive-thru…).
Located in Gold Beach, the shop is conveniently right across the street from Curry General Hospital. Of course, this is not a coincidence, the owners of Green Life Oregon knew exactly what they had in mind when they chose their location.
“We want to make sure people have the opportunity for natural alternatives to pain medicine, as well as offer a product the voters of Oregon support,” manager Jeremy Paulson said.
This is really a brilliant idea – since cannabis is legal to anyone over 21 years of age, this opens up the treatment possibilities for many people who wouldn’t qualify for medical marijuana under Oregon’s laws.
If someone is suffering from migraines or sprained an ankle or wrist for example, they would have convenient access to alternative medicine right after leaving the hospital – and the drive-thru only makes it that much more convenient.
While this is the first shop to open up a drive-thru, they are likely not the only ones who will. This will be one more helpful advance in the world of selling retail and medicinal cannabis (of which Green Life Oregon sells both).
It will also likely be a trend that catches on as another “attraction” of sorts in the green tourism scene. From the sounds of it, Green Life Oregon is already thinking about the future in terms of expansion.
“This venture is going to be quite an asset to the area,” Curry County Economic Development Director Julie Schmelzer told the Pilot. “Their plans for expansion… can help Gold Beach and the southwestern coast become a destination for those interested in the new green tourism we are fortunate to be a part of.”
Personally, I think this is a really neat concept and I hope they are successful – and I’m sure they will be. The intention behind the location is also brilliant if you ask me – everyone should have access to alternative and safe medicine. If you live in the Gold Beach area of Oregon, consider yourself lucky to be the first to have this luxury!
