Medical marijuana is sweeping its way across the United States, with many states legalizing weed for recreational purposes, too. However, there is still a lot of disparity between individual states when it comes to the requirements for obtaining medical marijuana cards and what can and cannot be bought and sold. For this reason, it is vital that people are educated properly about the do’s and don’ts of medical marijuana so that they don’t get themselves into any trouble. That is why we have put together a guide below of the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana conditions for you to refer to in order to make sure you do things the right way.

Registering

In order to get medical marijuana in Pennsylvania, you need to ensure you register yourself with the registry, which you can do easily online. Once you are registered, you then need to get certified. To do this, you need to be certified by a qualified physician as being eligible to receive medical marijuana. If they think you qualify, they will take care of the certification for you. They need to be registered with the Department of Health.

Getting Certified

In order for the physician to certify you, they need to believe you qualify for medical marijuana. To be eligible, you must have a diagnosis of at least one of the qualifying conditions in the state. These diseases range from autism to Crohn’s disease, and from epilepsy to anxiety disorders. The full list of 23 qualifying conditions is below:

Epilepsy

Glaucoma

HIV / AIDS

Huntington’s disease

Inflammatory bowel disease

Intractable seizures

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Anxiety disorders

Autism

Cancer, including remission therapy

Crohn’s disease

Damage to the nervous tissue of the central nervous system

Dyskinetic and spastic movement disorders

Multiple sclerosis

Neurodegenerative diseases

Neuropathies

Opioid use disorder

Parkinson’s disease

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Severe chronic or intractable pain of neuropathic origin or severe chronic or intractable pain

Sickle cell anaemia

Terminal illness

Tourette syndrome

Other Diseases

If you suffer from any of these diseases, you are likely to be approved for a medical marijuana card. However, more diseases are constantly being researched to assess the use of medical marijuana in their treatment. This means you should talk with your physician if you believe you are suffering from something and that you could potentially benefit from  medical marijuana.

Very Expensive

Unfortunately, even when you are registered for medical marijuana, you need to pay hefty sums for it when compared to other states. Some products will set you back double or more than states like Washington, and this problem does not seem to be going away. There are many reasons for the price hikes, but until this problem changes, more people will be hesitant about using medical marijuana in the state of Pennsylvania, which leads some to go elsewhere and obtain their marijuana illegally. This incurs further costs when it comes to legal trouble and incarceration, so the problems will not be eased until prices are lowered.
