Mississippi MMJ Sales Could Begin Before the End of this Year

Medical marijuana regulators in Mississippi opened the application process for cultivators, processors, testing labs, and transporters. As of mid-August, over 100 medical marijuana businesses have received their license to operate. With the application and licensing process well underway, officials expect patients to be able to purchase products before the end of 2022. According to Ken Newburger, who is the executive director of the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association, medical cannabis products should be available by late November or early December.

Costa Rica’s President Reveals Plan for Cannabis Legalization

Costa Rica’s president has unveiled his plan to bring adult-use cannabis legislation to the country. Rodrigo Chaves was elected as president of Costa Rica in April of this year and announced his intention at a speech he gave that noted his first 100 days in office. According to Chaves, he plans to bring legislation to legalize recreational cannabis before the Legislative Assembly. He did not provide more specifics about this plan. However, Chaves mentioned his administration’s plan to provide regulations and rules for the existing medical marijuana market as well as industrial hemp.

Nebraskans Won’t See Medical Marijuana Initiatives on November’s Ballot

Two separate medical marijuana initiatives in Nebraska didn’t gather enough signatures to get on the ballot for this November. According to a local news channel, the secretary of state said that each initiative required 86,776 signatures to make the ballot. A measure to regulate medical marijuana only had 77,119 signatures. Another measure meant to provide patient protections only gathered 77,843 signatures. State Senator Jen Day said she plans to introduce cannabis legalization legislation in the next legislative session which starts on January 4, 2023.
