5 Cannabis Recipes to Enhance your Thanksgiving Experience

Thanksgiving is the one time of year that everyone can forget about diets and binge on as much food as they can handle. Within marijuana culture it would not be surprising that many like to toke up before such a big meal – but with such an extravagant meal, wouldn’t it be awesome to go the extra mile and make a thanksgiving of edibles?

With more states allowing legal recreational use of marijuana it should be no surprise that some people out there have already done this. So if you’ve been thinking about it, here are five different cannabis infused recipes to make your Thanksgiving a little extra special.

5Classic Cannabis Hemp Stuffing

Stuffing is one of my favorite Thanksgiving sides – probably because we just don’t have it any other time of year. I think this one would be the perfect starting point for a perfect cannabis infused Thanksgiving. This recipe is courtesy of High Times.

Ingredients:

  • 8 tbsp. (1 stick) Cannabutter
  • 3 or 4 tablespoons of butter for buttering pan and dotting
  • 2 cups yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cups celery, chopped finely
  • 1 tablespoon sage, minced
  • 1 tablespoon thyme, minced
  • 3 cups turkey broth
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup parsley, chopped
  • 16 cups day-old or toasted bread (I like brioche!)
  • ¼ cup hulled hemp seeds

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375ºF. Butter a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish.

Melt the cannabutter over medium heat in a large skillet. Saute the onions, celery, sage and thyme for five minutes, adding salt and pepper. Add the broth and bring to a simmer. Beat the eggs in a large bowl, add the parsley, bread cubes and hemp seeds. Pour the vegetable broth mixture over the bread, making sure all the cubes get nice and moist. Transfer your stuffing to the baking dish and dot with extra regular butter. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an extra 30 minutes, until the stuffing is golden brown. Stones 6.

4Marijuana Turkey Recipe

Turkey is probably the first thing we think of when it comes to a Thanksgiving dinner – so is it a surprise that there is a way to bake your turkey with cannabutter for some awesome results? Probably not. This recipe is thanks to The Weed Blog.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized (12- to 15-pound) turkey
  • 1/2 cup marijuana butter
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sweet basil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage

Directions:

Melt the cannabis butter in a small saucepan over low heat and blend in remaining ingredients. Stuff the turkey and/or season it with salt and pepper, if desired. Make a small incision in the skin of the turkey. Force a finger through the slit and break the contact between the skin and the meat. Using a meat injector, squirt half the butter mixture under the skin. Cook the turkey according to your favorite method, basting it with the remaining butter mixture every half hour until it’s done. We are going to cook it on a Traeger grill.

3Cannabis Gravy

Another traditional favorite is gravy – it does go on everything, right? Everything from the turkey and potatoes to dipping your roll in the leftover on your plate. Common’ now, we’ve all done it before. This Cannabis Gravy recipe is also from The Weed Blog.

Ingredients:

  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 2 large onions, sliced thin
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • Turkey, chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
  • 6 Tbsp cannabutter
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

Directions:

Grab a large skillet and melt your cannabutter over medium heat. Watch it closely. Add in your sliced onions and sauté them for about ten minutes. Then, toss in the rosemary and sage and cook for another ten minutes. Gradually add in the flour and whisk the mixture for a minute. Slowly whisk in the stock and begin to boil the mix until it begins to thicken. Stir everything frequently. Grab the pan that you used to cook the turkey in and pour the juices out in to a cup. Spoon off the fat that rises to the top and pour the juices in with the gravy.

In your roasting pan, add vinegar. Bring that to a simmer over medium, scraping up the browned bits left behind. Pour this new mixture in to a small sauce pan. Boil it for about 3 minutes and then add it in to the gravy. Stir it together well. Add salt and pepper for seasoning if you choose.

2“Green” Bean Casserole

This may not be a staple at everyone’s Thanksgiving – but my family wouldn’t understand a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner without it! Though I have to say, I think this recipe is much better than the one I grew up eating! 😉 This is another recipe from The Weed Blog.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons marijuana butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 pound fresh green beans

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Cut onions into the thinnest slices possible. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the onions until they are deep brown and caramelized. Toss caramelized onions with bread crumbs.

Heat the marijuana butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add garlic, pepper, and nutmeg and cook, stirring, for another minute. Sprinkle the flour over the pan and cook, stirring for another couple minutes. Mix in chicken stock and bring to a simmer. Stir in half and half. Cook, stirring often, until mixture thickens. Remove skillet from heat and stir in one-fourth of the onion/bread crumb mixture along with the green beans. Spray a 1 1/2 quart baking dish with cooking spray and fill three-fourths full with the bean mixture. Spread remaining onion/bread crumb mixture over the top of the pan. Bake, uncovered, for about 45 minutes or until mixture is bubbly and the top has browned.

1Great Ganja Pumpkin Pie

What is a Thanksgiving dinner without desserts? The most well-known Thanksgiving dessert of all time has got to be pumpkin pie. I’m not sure whether or not there was actually pumpkin pie at the first Thanksgiving, but hey, it’s seasonal and delicious, so why not? I got this Great Ganja Pumpkin Pie recipe from High Times and I look forward to giving it a try one day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 16-oz. can of pumpkin (just plain pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix!)
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1/4 cup of condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. molasses
  • 1/2 stick of Cannabutter
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350º degrees. Begin by melting your Cannabutter over low heat until it has liquefied. Combine the beaten eggs, milk, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, brown sugar and pumpkin in a large bowl, and beat. Add the Cannabutter to the mixture. Pour the mixture into the pastry pie crust. Cook pie for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean. Stones 6.
