The use of CBD for various illnesses and ailments has become more and more in vogue in the last several years. Using CBD for joint pain and other chronic conditions has been shown to be very effective. In places where traditional medicines are failing, it seems that CBD for joint pain and CBD for migraines might just be the answer.
When it comes other people’s pain, it can be very difficult to understand and quantify. Having someone in your life – a loved one or a friend – who suffers from pain can leave you both feeling helpless. Migraines can leave people lying in dark rooms for hours, sometimes for days at a time, and it can be difficult to imagine what they’re going through. Likewise watching someone struggle with joint pain can be equally as difficult. Something that seems easy to us, like walking up a flight of stairs, can leave others red-faced, gasping in pain, and short of breath. There is little that can be done in such situations, or so it would seem.
Over the past few years, a number of studies have been done in relation to the endocannabinoid system. This is the system of receptors that exist throughout the body that naturally produces cannabinoids. The anti-inflammatory properties of these receptors have been exploited to treat such medical conditions as skin conditions and depression. So, it stands to reason that they could also be used to treat physical pains. Researchers have done a number of studies that show that the introduction of CBD in areas of inflammation and joint pain can produce wondrous results.
Is CBD Different than Regular Cannabis?
Though CBD comes from the marijuana plant, it is different than regular cannabis that contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is the chemical found in the marijuana plant that has psychoactive properties. This is what commonly give people the ‘high’ feeling; CBD contains none of this, it is completely non-psychoactive.
Within the marijuana plant, there are many strains that cause various reactions throughout the body. The most commonly known ones are those that contain THC. CBD, as well as being completely non-psychoactive, has also been found to be far more beneficial for health and recovery.
CBD for Joint Pain
As we said, in the body we have the endocannabinoid system. This is made up of two kinds of receptors: CB1 and CB2 receptors. The CB1 receptors are primarily located in the brain. The CB2 receptors, on the other hand, are found throughout our immune system. In particular, CB2 receptors are prominently found in the joint tissues of arthritis patients. Using CBD for joint pain can reduce inflammation and alleviate pain by activating these CB2 receptor pathways.
There are various forms of CBD available for the treatment of joint pain. There are CBD oils and salves that can be placed directly onto the most affected areas. CBD’s powerful anti-inflammatory properties are often enough to stop certain cases of joint pain from progressing further or to manage pre-existing conditions. Vaping CBD is another common treatment form. Many athletes vape CBD before or after strenuous activity in order to lessen the damage done to their own joints and ligaments.
CBD for Migraines
Two medical marijuana medical speciality clinics in Colorado published their findings in Pharmacology Journal in May 2016. What they found should be seriously considered by anyone interested in seeking treatment or using CBD for migraines. In a group of 121 patients who suffered from migraines, they found that through the daily use of medical marijuana (CBD), their migraine frequency decreased significantly.
Other studies done in California of over two thousand patients who suffered from a multitude of conditions – not only migraines – found similar results. One hundred percent of these patients reported that the symptoms of their migraines were significantly reduced and their discomfort had been noticeably eased. This was limited, however, to those who suffered from migraines; other conditions were not as equally affected. This demonstrates just how effective CBD is for migraines and their treatment.
The reason why CBD is so effective against migraines is because of its effect on the body’s central nervous system, particularly on the serotonin that is found there. Serotonin can help affect and regulate your mood. Cannabinoids slow amounts of serotonin that are normally lost and saves it. The higher the levels of serotonin, the lower the risk is for depression.
Depression is a risk for anyone suffering from debilitating pain, but thanks to CBD it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Don’t Continue Suffering from Chronic Pain
Of course there are more studies to be done and more evidence to be collected, but clearly the power of CBD should not be underestimated. The endocannabinoid system, though only a recent discovery, has huge potential and is there to be used in the hopes of improving our health. The hugely positive effect cannabis has on chronic pain in joints shouldn’t be underestimated. Naturally, should you be interested in these benefits of CBD, you should speak to those in the medical profession. Speak to your own GP to learn about the great things that can be done with CBD.

I’ve been using CBD Oil for the past 6 years now and I can’t stress enough about how good it is for my chronic pain. My mother is also taking it for her joint pain. Yes, we’re a CBD family :p
We both usually take tinctures on a daily basis. Which method according to you is the best for taking CBD? I’m hearing a lot about CBD vapes and gummies these days? Are they good enough or shall we continue with our tinctures only?
Thanks!
I”ve been using these select cbd vape pens for about a month now. My favorites are focus during the day and lavender or cinnamon at night! What I like most is it”s helping my graving for weed, or should I say THC, which what gives you that high feeling. I don”t like my brain being foggy though, which I feel THC does to me, so this cbd is a good alternative, especially for someone like me who has ADD. I still get similar benefits like most weed will give you, which is that calm and relaxed feeling, but more focused, alert and clear-headed when just using cbd. Next, is to try their cbd drops!
But these injections may do more harm than good: The report found corticosteroid shots in the hips and knees may accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis and potentially even hasten the need for joint replacement surgeries in the long run, said lead author Dr. Ali Guermazi, a professor of radiology at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Good article! My grandfather had migraines for a loong time! We tried different drugs and only CBD oil from top brands could help him. It is very difficult to enjoy life with pain. It’s a good thing we came across this list then! Have a good day!
