Being a mother is tough even in the best of circumstances. But having a serious ailment and trying to keep up with a child can be downright impossible. Luckily, Pineapple A. from Missouri doesn’t need permission from the government to be a functioning human being and a great mother.

The Marijuana Times: What ailments do you use cannabis to treat?

Pineapple A: I use cannabis to treat my Multiple Sclerosis, which includes but is not limited to paralyzing spasms in my whole body, and anxiety/ stress.

MT: How do these ailments affect your daily life?

PA: I am a mother of a 1 year old who is very adventurous. I am constantly running after him and constantly tiring out before the day is through. The spasms that can come on whenever they please are so crippling that sometimes I can’t even [control] my limbs or bodily functions.

MT: What were you told about cannabis growing up?

PA: It was the “funky reefer” to my mother and never really spoken about in our home. D.A.R.E. in school was the only thing that really talked about marijuana and it was the “gateway” drug.

MT: What do you have to go through to obtain the cannabis you use and how does it make you feel to have to rely on the illegal market?

PA: I have to call/text people I know who obtain it for their own pleasure and use selective verbiage. I always refer to it as my medicine so that people see it not as a “drug” but as an actual helping aid in my daily life. I don’t feel like I am a bad person for going the illegal route when it is a plant that grows freely on our planet. The government took it from us because they realized its power and couldn’t harness it.

MT: What is your preferred method of cannabis ingestion and why?

PA: Preferred is in edible form, but the head change that comes from  vaporizing is very helpful with stress and anxiety associated with MS.

MT: How is your life different now that you have found cannabis?

PA: I can function! I can hold my baby and not be afraid of a spasm or a flare.

MT: What prescription drugs, if any, were you able to stop using because of cannabis? How does cannabis work better than the prescriptions?

PA: Thankfully my Dr. and I decided on a more holistic approach. So no prescriptions for me… We changed my diet. Added vitamins and exercise (what I can); I added the cannabis, he isn’t aware of that. Well I’m sure he knows but we don’t talk about it.

MT: What strains have you found to most helpful to your specific aliment?

PA: I find that a good blend of indica and sativa is ideal.

MT: Have you had any encounters with law enforcement over your cannabis use?

PA: No, I keep things pretty careful.

MT: Are you involved in any sort of activism in your area or state?

PA: I voice my opinion often, sign every petition and always vote in favor.

MT: Have you ever thought about moving to another state to gain better access to medical cannabis?

PA: Yes, but unfortunately for me and my family we are stuck where we are for a little bit longer.

MT: How important is it to you that legalization comes to your state?

PA: It’s very important. If not for recreational (which I don’t oppose) but at least for medicinal. People dealing with ailments need to know that cannabis can help better their everyday lives [more] than any prescription.
