Since his debut album Doggystyle way back in 1993, Snoop Dogg has never hid his love for the sticky icky. Nowadays, he’s one of a new crop of celebrity cannabis entrepreneurs who are eager to invest in the multi-billion dollar legal cannabis business. While others hope to get to Snoop’s level, his claim that his Leafs By Snoop brand is the first mainstream cannabis brand of its kind does seem to hold (at least some) water.

“Since I’ve been at the forefront of this movement for over 20 years now, I’m a master of marijuana,” Snoop told CBS San Francisco. “Leafs By Snoop is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer.”

Snoop, whose legal name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., doesn’t actually own the company, because he’s not a Colorado resident. But he says he “definitely oversaw its formation”.

“It’s a true blessing that I can share the products I love so much with y’all today,” Snoop said in a recent press statement. “From the flower, to the concentrates, and edibles – it’s all hand-picked by yours truly so you know it’s the hottest product out there. It’s the real deal and you gotta get out to Colorado to try it first!”

Snoop Dizzle has been arrested for cannabis possession multiple times since the 1980s and obviously supports full recreational legalization at all levels. The 44 year old rapper/ entrepreneur already owns a cannabis website called Merry Jane.

Leafs By Snoop will partner up with a Colorado dispensary called LivWell and will likely feature Snoop specific branding and packaging. Some of the interesting hybrids on their strain list include Lemon Pie, Blueberry Dream, Northern Lights and Purple Bush.

In a video on the Leafs by Snoop website, Snoop says he personally selected each strain for their “aroma, taste and bud structure.”

Leafs By Snoop will also sell edibles — like handmade chocolate bars, peanut butter gems, gummies, drops, and fruit juice.

While some cannabis entrepreneurs and activists see celebrity-sponsored cannabis as a good thing, others disagree. Competition in any marketplace is an absolute necessity, and legal cannabis is no different. As the industry moves progresses forward, let’s hope the hard working and long suffering small business owners don’t get bought out of the marketplace.

What do you think? Are celebrity cannabis entrepreneurs a good or bad thing for legalization and for the industry as a whole? Let us know in the comment section!
