Earlier this week, it was announced that former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson had broken ground on a 40-acre facility that will include a massive cannabis cultivation farm and a school that will teach growers the latest techniques and technological advancements when it comes to growing marijuana.

Half of the 40 acres will be devoting to the actual growing of cannabis, while the rest will house the school and research facilities that will study the potential benefits of medical marijuana, as well as an edibles factory, extraction facility and a hydro-feed plant and supply store. Under the umbrella of a company known as “Tyson Holistic,” much of the medical marijuana research will revolve around helping military veterans who suffer from ailments like post traumatic stress disorder.

The ranch itself will be southwest of Death Valley, not far from Edwards Air Force Base in CA. It will also include campsites and cabins for those who want to “smoke and stay,” as well as an amphitheater.

While no one would argue that Tyson doesn’t have a notorious past – from boxing to prison to movies – it’s also true that no one could argue that he’s not one of the most famous people in the world. This story has gone viral and millions of people have already heard about Mike Tyson and his plans for a medical marijuana resort and farm. At least some of those people will have their interest peaked enough for them to look closer into the story – and maybe even the issue of medical cannabis itself.

In any case, if Tyson’s vision succeeds, it will help a lot of people and provide a lot of jobs for the area of California City, CA and beyond. Their pledge to “allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment” could draw in some of the best minds in cannabis cultivation and unleash them to produce the best product possible for consumers.

Tyson and his team are pioneering a segment of the cannabis industry that could be commonplace 20 years from now. He has the name recognition to produce a well-known and stable brand. Of course, execution of a good idea is the hardest part, and Tyson Holistic has a long way to go, having broken ground less than 2 weeks ago. But it will certainly be interesting to see how they progress.
